New Feature In Development: Import Data From CSV Format

Last month, our development team worked on the permission engine and user groups setting, which had been rolled out last week. Now, we are focusing on importing contacts in the CSV file format (Comma Separated Values), so that you can import all your contacts with just a few clicks.

CSV file format is being used by many popular software, such as Outlook, Outlook Express, Yahoo!, Gmail, Hotmail, Salesforce,  and ACT!. I bet you use some of them on a daily basis and stored a lot of contacts there. It doesn’t make sense that if you have to manually type in all those data into Bizroof again.

As we said before, Bizroof CRM is designed and developed in such a way to help you, and we believe that if we help you, you will help Bizroof to grow. So, let us hear your voice!

New Feature: User Groups & Permission Engine

We’ve been working on our new permission engine for the last five weeks, and today I’m very proud to roll it out! The new system allows you to create groups for users, so that you can have an option to share things only with the people you choose. It also enables that people only see the information they need to see.

You can easily create and manage groups. Here is how:

1. Click the Groups on the right cornor of the page.

2.You will see all the groups you’ve created. To create a new one, you can simply click Add a group, and type the name of your new group, and then select users to be added to the group.

To change the group name and members, you can click Edit next to the group you want to edit, and type in the new name or choose users from the dropdown list.

Ok, you have learnt absolutely everything about setting up and managing groups, secriously. :-)

3. Now, if you creat a new person, an event, a cash flow record and a document, you will have a Select a Group option in the privacy settings section.

Click Select a Group, and it will fade out, and then the list of groups you’ve created will appear. :-)

Guess what? You now have a real understanding of how to create and use group settings. Easy-to-learn, isn’t it?

What Are The Bizroof Crew Working On?

We have been very busy at Bizroof for the last couple of weeks, and our primary focus is the new permission system, which will allow you to group users based on their common interests and share information within each group.

Every piece of data has its own privacy settings, including 3 options:

  • Public – Anyone in your company can see it.
  • Group – Only the users in the chosen group can see it
  • Private – Only the creator can see it

Bear in mind that if a user can see something, it also means he can edit and delete it. ;-)

Twitter Offline Again

Twitter.com went down again at 11:22 am CET today.

There is no doubt that twitter is useful in terms of synchronizing information, but it has to be technically strong, rather than wrong (screen shot), to make people confident to use it. We wouldn’t complain too much since twitter is completely free at the moment. However, I don’t think twitter could run itself without a business model forever.

iCalendar Feed Out of Beta

Today, we have removed the beta label of the iCalendar Feed feature as it met our goals for ease-of-use and overall performance. :-)

If you want to subscribe to your bizroof events on other Calendar (e.g. Google Calendar, Outlook, etc), please sign in your bizroof account, and go to the Events page, and then click iCalendar Feed for events on the left hand side of the page.

Bizroof is a better web based CRM thanks to the many users who sent their feedback, helping us rapidly fix issues and improve the product.

Google PageRank Backlinks Update (December 2008)

We just confirmed that google has been updating toolbar pagerank and backlinks, and it has been just over 3 months since the last update.

Since pagerank is one of the most important factors to determine the position of a site in the google search results, you may notice some change of your keywords performance as well.

We also found some interesting updates:

  1. CNN.com has a pagerank of 10 (People show respect to the online news industry now )
  2. Twitter.com has a pagerank of 9 (It deserves it, doesn’t it? )
  3. Wordpress.com has a pagerank of 9 (Well, It takes a long time climbing up from pagerank 8 )
  4. Wikipedia.org has a pagerank of 9 (Hmm.. Highest rank for human editing websites ever)
  5. XiaoNei.com has a pagerank of 7 (It is a clone of Facebook )
  6. Yammer.com has a pagerank of 6 (It went up from pagerank 2 )
  7. W3Schools.com has a pagerank of 8 (Google punished this website for paid footer links, but it just went up again now )

An Open Letter to Santa Claus (from Bizroof CRM)

Hi Santa,

You must be very very busy at the moment. I bet you are reviewing your list to make sure everybody gets the right present. I bet you have always been watching to see who is naughty or nice throughout the whole year. :-)

Santa, I wish I could do you a favor and make your life easier. If you have time, please have a look at our CRM application. It is web based, and you can access your data from anywhere anytime. Also, we support multiple users. So, every elf can have an account, and then they can share data with you in real time. Additionally, you can track their locations in Bizroof.

Our contact management module is powerful and easy-to-user. If you store your big list on our system, you can then tag them the way you want. You can search contacts by their addresses whenever you are coming to town… Also, your contacts can be added onto your events, which will be shown on your calendar. By the way, if you use Google calendar or MS Outlook, you can synchronize our calendar with theirs.

Since our basic accounts are free, there’s no reason not to explore further. You can click here to take the tour.

Santa, I would like to take this opportunity to express my thanks to you. You are so kind and always watching us……

Kind Regards,

Francis Green

Customer Concerns for SaaS (Hosted/Web-based) CRM

We recently run a survey and asked 1000 randomly selected users what are their main concerns for SaaS (software as a service) CRM in general.

As of the writing of this post, we’ve collected 638 responses, amazingly, 86% of them say that they’ve used at least one other SaaS CRM before come to Bizroof.

Please allow us to express our thanks to the many users who sent their feedback, and here are the top 3 concerns from the respondents:

Too complicated to use (42%)

The learning curve for SaaS CRM is too long and there are too many features they don’t care. Most screens are full of confusing buttons and links, which make people lose confidence to use it. Also, it is so painful and cost ineffective to learn a new system or to train somebody to use it.

System reliability (27%)

The most scary thing of using SaaS CRM is that it gives you a ‘service unavailable notice’ when you try to login. In that case, you can do nothing to help your clients but to  tell them your CRM system is down, and that will not only make you look silly but also letting business opportunities go.

Data security (12%)

Based on the survey, most people would only use systems with SSL, which is the same technology that online banks use. Also, they would like to know how do you backup the database although they don’t want a copy of their data on regular basis.

Google Chrome Removes Magic Beta Label

Google has recently removed the beta label of Chrome, which claims more than 10 millions active users in just over 3 months.

Since launching, Google has collected tons of customer feedback and performance reports, and they keep rolling out new features and bug fixes. Chrome is fast, stable and secure without a doubt, but it still doesn’t support Mac and Linux. Also, an extension platform (Firefox’s add-ons style) is strongly required by a substantial amount of users.

As you may know, many google products are in beta for years, including GMail, Google Calendar, etc. So, why google took Chrome out of beta so quick?

Reason 1: Google is not happy to pay Firefox millions every year

Google paid Firefox $66 million this year for the default search box in the Firefox browser, and the bill would go up if Firefox gets more online search market share. So, Google desperately wants to reduce that bill by encouraging people to use their own brower, Chrome, and it gives users more confidence by simply removing the magic beta label.

Reason 2:  OEMs require a full release Chrome

Some computer manufactures (OEMs) agree to pre-install Chrome on their new computers if Google takes Chrome out of beta. It always makes sense to keep the key customers and partners happy, especially when they offer to help you.

Product Launch In Foreign Countries

Case Study – Britney Spears Launch Her Womanizer on X Factor Stage in the UK

Britney physically went to London to promote her new album Womanizer on the album launching day in the UK, and her appearance on the X Factor was one of the most hotly anticipated TV shows. So, why X Factor? It is so well known in the UK music industry and the people watching the TV series are the ones most likely to buy Britney’s album. In another word, X Factor targets the same customer base as Britney does.

Any other reasons? Well, thousands of journalists and reviewers keep an eye on X Factor in the UK, they talk about any X Factor news they could ever found. In such a way, Britney’s new album automatically became a hot topic all over UK, including local magazines, newspapers, other TV programs and even websites. So, the launching news went all over the places without extra work.

Lessons to Be Learned – Hold (preview), Hold (create the buzz), Fire (launch!)

PREVIEW STAGE – It is so important to find the right foreign launching partners, and keep them informed the stuff are you working on. By doing this, your targeted foreign customers will get a preview of your work via the launching partners’ network. Also, tell your partners the official launching day as earlier as you can. So, they can get the message over, and then their customers will help to message fly further as they’ve got something to share with their friends.

BUZZ STAGE – A few days before the launching, ask your foreign partners to work out a VIP list, who will receive exclusive information and resources about your product. Keep in mind, your partners know the foreign market better than you do, so give them the privilege to do the list.

The people on the VIP list are your evangelists, and they extent your potential foreign customer base to the a new level, where the BUZZ is fully loaded and all about your new product.

LAUNCH STAGE – It is the show time! Deliver what you promised and keep all the new customers happy. To achieve this, there are 2 things your partners can help you with: A. Get your foreign supply chain smooth; B. Get a better understanding of the local culture.
